Heading to the North on the Route Nationale 2, Largny-sur-Automne is the look-out of the department, while the road climbs the ravine of this river, L’Automne (about 60 m height) to the plateau and the Massif of Retz. The friendly silhouette of a windmill - formerly posted along the main road to Paris, witnessed a terrible crime that frightened the younger Alexandre Dumas, now restored and became a symbol of the Aisne - welcomes the driver who discovers, at the end of the wheatfields, the tower of the church of Saint-Denis *, one of the most beautiful of the valley of 'the 35 bell towers!'
| Strong and proud of its heritage, the village of Largny-sur-Automne doesn’t live anymore with the rhythm of the Celtic legends of La Pierre Clouise when the girls slipped over the huge block of sandstone (15.50 m) to know whether they will marry this year. If nothing remains of the ancient castle of the Counts of Crépy, several old houses (private property) still testify of the strong agricultural activity of the Largny region and the wealth of their farmers: the stronghold of Outhieux (15th century) maintains an octagonal turret and an amazing mural of a saint on horseback chasing a doe *, the manor of La Muette * ( from the 16th century) presents severe stone walls and two square turrets, on the edge of the plateau, while some traditional farms still have their barns and exploitation. In the hollow of the valley, the water mill of Wallu is reflected in its beautiful lake and the area known as 'the Charmettes' * was dedicated, in the late 19th century, to Jean-Jacques Rousseau by one of his admirers, with two temples, statues and an English park.
The fauna and flora are also celebrated in the town. Fertile plains, ponds, forests, L’Automne and small tributary valleys are crossed by many paths that make the joy of hikers. Do not hesitate to visit, during spring, the beautiful gardens of the Château de la Muette. A village well worth a visit!
