Our town has now about 400 inhabitants who are spread across three hamlets: Vivières, Longavesne and L’Essart, consisting of about 200 homes.
The economy is mainly agricultural. The working population goes to Villers-Cotterêts or to the Paris region.
The municipality has created two schools for the youngest together with the school consolidation with Puiseux en Retz and Soucy. The school canteen is being hosted by the municipality of Puiseux en Retz. | The community life is driven regularly by “ l’association du foyer rural” and the 'oldest' meet weekly at the Saint Hubert club. A Leisure Centre Without Accommodation (Recreation Center) is open during summer holidays since recent years. “La Companie d’arc”, of regional reputation, is very active in the communal animation, organizing many competitions on a nature trail, with shooting animals (mock) in 3D. The company works actively in the field of training, especially young people, some of them are trained by the local management, and regularly participate to the Championship of France.
The memorial of the exploits of “ L’Escadron de Gironde” (*) highlights the national commemorations, with the participation of the association of the 16th Dragon and L’Escadron de Gironde.
'Our' Castle, Castle of Mazancourt, now private property, has recently been embellished with a major renovation of facades and is now open to the public. This castle has known famous owners including Henry BATAILLE, who at the beginning of last century, built in the park, a barn-shaped hut, designed to shelter llamas, and a folly consisting of 28 Tuscan brick columns, hidden by a coating.
Although our financial resources are very limited, significant work has been done, is being done (fire safety) or planned to be done (elimination of bare electric wire) and an advisory committee working on the improvement of the living conditions (facilities, services, development of the heritage, culture ,...) has been put in place. This committee consists of elected and unelected.
Our City is a very active member of the Community of Municipalities which, among all of its objectives and the pooling of resources, should enable the coherence and / or projects that would be unthinkable to manage at the simple level of the Commune.
(*) Located on the D81, to the right coming from Montigny-Lengrain towards Vivières, a monument was erected to the glory of Gaston de Gironde, a brilliant young officer, who fell in these places. Lieutenant in 16th Regiment of Dragons, a squadron commander sent in recognition among the German lines, he attacked on the night of September 10th 1914 a convoy of airplanes and destroyed it. Lieutenant Gaston de Gironde, born in Ferrensac (Lot et Garonne), is buried in the cemetery of Vivières.
